Indian Women novelists in English constitute a major segment in Indian English Literature. Fiction has become a powerful form of literary expression for women. The struggle to establish one’s identity and to assert one’s individuality has led the woman to wage a desperate fight against the existing social order of the day. It is therefore, imperative for women to determine their new role and to redefine its parameters. The portrayal of women in literature helps the women writers to draw role models. The present book aims at analyzing and evaluating Shashi deshpande’s entire novels written so far. Her writings reflect a strong ethnic background. She has well defined ethnic identities and a quest for eternal self, for something deeper in religion.
