Human "Success Stories" are marked by struggle to control and thereby interface with the environment since time immemorial. Due to indiscriminate exploitation of environment, the survival of human beings is at stake. There is a need to transform the prevailing mindset to recognise long term limits that nurtures rather than jeopardize the ecological system. Education is an instrument of transforming the mindsets. Education for the environment, education about the environment and education through the environment is the only alternative to bring the compatibility between quality of life and quality of environment. For making environmental education, a successful movement, curriculum designers should think differently on the multidimensional tasks of developing curriculum with sustainable development as the intellectual centre. The teachers should be equipped with pedagogical skills to transact the multifaceted curriculum encompassing cognitive, social, emotional and ethical dimension. Considering the above view point, an effort has been made in this book to address the emerging trends in environmental education.
