The present work in order to study the exact impact of colonial economy on the socio-economic structure of Jalpaiguri District has tried to consult the various unexplored primary source materials. The close scrutiny of different land revenue settlements, disclosure of view points of the colonial official about the land revenue structure, the colonial control over the management of local markets all these tendencies have been given importance. Further the close examination of the private papers of the Baikunthapur Zamindary Estate, the prudent use of Calcutta High Court papers have given a new dimension to the present book and will perhaps offer some guidance for the future researchers.
