ABOUT THE AUTHOR Kalhans Patel
Dr.Kalhans patel is a renowned and internationally acclaimed performing artist. His main interest is ethnoarchaeology and ethnomusic, for that he ventured into interior of Gujarat and collected original folk songs with traditional flavour. He has done remarkable research in folk and tribal art. He has done Ph.D. on “Development of Garaba-Rasa, the folk art of Gujarat, from the earliest to the present day” especially from the ethnomusiccological and ethnoarchaeological point of view. He is a trend setter and pioneer in the open field Garaba, the prime Cultural Heritage of Gujarat. His own compositions appeared in cassettes under “ Kalhans No Kalrav” and “Sol Varasni Sundari have earned lot of praise and publicity. Being a retired Professor of Archaeology, Ancient History, art and Culture, in the M.S. University of Baroda, he is both an academician and performing artist, a rare combination. He longs for the preservation of folk and tribal culture. He was nominated by the Governor of Gujarat on the programme committee of the West Zone Cultural Centre at Udaipur, which is under the H.R.D. Ministry of Government of India. He is nominated for Joint Programme Advisory Committee for boyh Doordarshan and all-india Radio (Akashwani) at Ahmedabad, by Broadcasting Corporation of India-Prasar Bharati. He is honoured with many awards. In 2007 he was honoured with most prestigious award “ Gaurava Puraskar” by Gujarat State Sangit Natak Academy for his outstanding, remarkable and immense contribution In the field of folk music, mainly Garaba-Rasa for the year 2000-2001.
