This book extensively covers two major agro-based industries–Bamboo and Coir. The analysis presented here clearly proved that agro-based industries are comparatively easy to establish and provide income in the rural areas with less investment by effective and efficient utilisation of local agricultural raw materials. The author has succeeded in taking an overview of agro-based industries in generating rural employment in the country. The book also highlights the fact that mechanisation in agro-based industries never creates unemployment and labour displacement. The spurt of different activities in this sector has resulted in the creation of both forward and backward linkages which led to the creation of economies of scale. Here, the policy implications are fairly significant. Generation of output, income and employment were found to be positive in agro-based industries. Hence, the book will be of use to entrepreneurs in agro-based industries as well as policy makers.
