Samkhya is known as one of the oldest systems of Indian Philosophy. Isvarakrsna Samkhyakarika seems to be the earliest available and most popular work of this system.
The present volume contains the original Sanskrit verses (Karikas) alongwith the Yuktidipika commentary. The authorship of this comm. is not yet known. But it is known that the Yuktidipika comm. is an oldest, authentic and clear exposition on Sankhyakarika. The speciality if this edition is that it contains the revised English Translation of S.S.S. Sastri. Besides these, transliteration of verses, explanatory notes and variant readings of the texts, are some other features of this work. In addition to these, this book is also furnished with several useful Indices. It is hoped that this edition will be more helpful to such students in understanding the meaning of its verses through an English translation and notes based on the Yuktidipika commentary.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR N C Panda
Dr. Nrusingh Charan Panda is the 1929 - born Scientist Emeritus - having retired from the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar, as Professor and Dean of the Veterianary Faculty. Notwithstanding his specialization in Nutritional Biochemistry, with M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees of the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA, Dr. Panda is essentially a versatile personality, combining in him the endowments of a scientist, a Sanskritist, a philosopher, a psychologist, a litterateur, a yogi and a Tantrist. His achievements have been recognized, at different times, with a number of prestigious awards in both science and literature. Internationally reputed for his scientific interpretations of Vedic literature, Professor Panda has also authored a number of widely acclaimed books like Maya in Physics, The Vibrating Universe, Mind and Supermind (2 Vols.) and Cyclic Universe (2 Vols.). His is truly the integral, synthetic, holistic approach.
