Constitution and Parliamentary Democracy in Contemporary India

After the attainment of independence on 15th August 1947, Indian leaders framed a constitution based on the parliamentary system of Great Britain and other democracies of the world like Canada and Australia. Indian Constitution is one of the lengthiest written constitution of the world. Great political leaders some of whom were great constitutionalists like Gopal Swami Iengar, Jawaharlal Nehru and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar were associated with the framing of the constitutions. The constitution embodies the great traditions and wisdom gained during the freedom struggle. It contained a great vision for the development of a just society. How has the constitution come up to the expectations of the framers of the constitution, has been analysed in this book.
