The digital revolution and globalization has completely transformed the way new was collected, distributed and ‘consumed’ and thus, the face of media as well as the journalism as a profession has also changed remarkably. Technical effects notwithstanding, infusion of TNC capital and has caused the paradigm shift to the mindset of journalists, media professionals and the public. How can journalism educators and media professionals respond to trend and impact of media globalization?
The Internet has proved to be a mixed blessing. It proved an excellent resource for background information and also for material that prompted ideas for localized stories about national or international trends (a good way to show local-global interconnections). However, some students did not go beyond what they found on the Internet. Some students viewed use of the Internet as a shortcut to the field research they needed to complete assignments.
The book Global Journalism-Expanding Media Imperialism, Mass Culture and Intrinsic Politics in all its seven chapters has tried to underline the cause and effects of globalization and digital revolution taking examples from various parts of the world including India and has addressed the issues of Morality and Politics in new Media and towards the end, in the appendix section discusses the position of major global players of media business.
