Ramanuja’s role as a great religious teacher is unique in the annals of our sub-continent. His matha established at Srirangapatnam, was financed by several kings and affluent people. Soon he could attract thousands of his followers in the south as well as in the north of India. His ideology and philosophy were a challenge to the teachings of Adi Sankaracharya. The theme has been divided into nine chapters along with comprehensive appendices. They depict his early career which was devoted in search of truth, his philosophical thought and religious ideas, the nature of religion, the idea of God and his existence, about his concept of life and knowledge, the world, creation and liberation, and the rich legacy which he left for the coming generation. This work would be useful for teachers, scholars and students in India and abroad.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Dr. Sangh Mittra
Dr. Sangh Mittra is Deputy Director (Research) in Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi, a National Institute of repute. Besides her academic responsibilities in the council, she is intensively involved in other academic activities. She is an eminent social scientist and author of more then three dozen books in History and Archaeology and several research in reputed research journal. She did her M.A., L.L.B, Ph.D. in Archaeology from University of Lucknow and is submitting her D. Litt. Work shortly. She has been presenting research papers in National and International seminars and member of International and national Institutions, societies and has academic links with numerous institutions of higher learning. She is honorary professor and director of B.R. Ambedkar Social Sciences Institute, Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, U.P.
