This introductory text on Polymer Chemistry does not presuppose a high level of proficiency in the background subjects and is written for students of an average calibre who have studied in an Indian University for a B.Sc. (Pass) degree. This text would, therefore, be useful to those students who wish to be initiated in the subject at the grass-root level. For this end in view, special feature of the book is the introduction of elementary questions in the text based on the previously discussed matter and furnishing their answers at the end of the chapter.
In order to add to the usefulness of the book, ten specimen laboratory exercises, which can be performed in an ordinary Organic Chemistry laboratory, have been given in an Appendix of the book. A glossary of the terms used in the text has been given at the very beginning of the book.
A chapter on "Degradation and Stabilization of Polymers" has been added to enhance the utility of the book to the technologist and the practioner. The recent Merrifield solid phase synthesis of polypeptides, to emphasize the usefulness of the solid supports in the synthesis of useful macromolecules has been taken note of in the book.
