A Sourcebook of World Politics is a study of some major currents and developments in international relations as they have evolved during the last century. The work can be considered a companion volume of An Encyclopaedia of the twentieth century which the editors have brought out last year in three volumes—India, Asia and Africa and The West. The vast field of world politics has been encompassed in two volumes: 1. An encyclopaedia of world politics; and 2. A survey of world politics. Section one is an encyclopaedic approach to world politics. It provides information on more than 1,000 topics relating to events, countries, places and personalities. The section two is on Historical perspectives, which presents a brief survey of world politics with focus on the issues which have shaped the contemporary world. They include two world wars, revolutions in Russia and China, League of Nations, rise of fascism, cold war, non-alignment, collapse of the Soviet system, rise of America as the only super-power, decolonization, and emergence of the Third World countries, the work of United Nations and its various agencies, and finally European integration. While section three lists major political developments across the world in a chronological order, section four furnishes an exhaustive bibliography of source-materials. It is reasonably hoped that the students and scholars would find the work of some use in understanding the nuances of the present-day world politics which vitally affects our own lives.
