Bio-diesel is a fatty acid of ethyl or methyl ester made from virgin or used vegetable oils (both edible and non-edible) and animal fats. The main commodity sources for Bio-diesel in India can be non-edible oils obtained from plant species such as Jatropha curcas (Ratanjyot), Pangamia pinnata (Karanj), Calophylum inophyllum (Nagchampa), Hevcca brasiliensis (Rubber) etc. Bio-diesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a Bio-diesel blend or can be used in its pure form.

These concerns have lead to research for bio-fuel to overcome the above said problems. In India it is not possible for all to get absorbed in government/ private services, it will be a wise step to go for self-employment whatever may the situation/limitation be. Also bio-fuel industries appear to be better substitutes than fossil fuel and can eliminate the problem to great extent. However the main concern with bio-fuel is its high costing therefore selection of total quality rural based bio-fuel system is to find ways the means to solve the related problems. The present book “Biodiesel” provides present state of art of technology of bio-diesel production, its emission and techno-economic evaluation in the present context.

The book will be a ready reckoner for engineers, students, academicians and researchers in the field of economics, agriculture, extension education, alternate energy and rural development.
