The life of Gautama Buddha has been compiled by Dr. Prafulla Kumar Pattanaik with a view to presenting a clear and consistent picture about the real birth place of the lord and also many other important events of his life such as renunciation, visit to ancestral place, distribution of ashes, relics etc. it is based mostly, if not wholly, on the research findings of eminent research scholar of Orissa lata Chakradhar Mohapatra and also on invaluable works of some of Buddhist monks like Uttama Bhikksu and Reve. Siridhamma and also of Buddhist scholar and statesman, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Not much stress has been laid on the Buddhist philosophy, popularly known as dhamma as there are a number of treatises on the subject. The omission of legends and absence of the accounts of miracles from the compilation is intended to indicate that contribution of Buddha to the world happiness is more than enough for anyone who seeks the truth, to appreciate and accept the method of the great master without having to call on legends or miracles to highlight his life.
