In India, since the publication of the first festschrift in library and information science (LIS) in 1965 – which was in honor of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan – there has been a steady growth of LIS festschrifts. These volumes are valuable sources of biographical and bibliographical information on contributions of eminent librarians/library scientists in India, which are useful to researchers, teachers, working librarians, and students of LIS. In spite of their importance as valuable sources of information, their utility does not appear to have reached potential users, due to lack of reliable information on published festschrifts (creating problem of proper identification and accessibility), inaccurate and inadequate coverage in existing bibliographical tools, and meager coverage in book reviews in LIS journals and newsletters. This book has prepared a systematic inventory, providing reliable and full bibliographical information on LIS festschrifts published in India since 1965. It also provides a retrieval tool for over 2,500 contributions contained in these festschrifts, and includes an in-depth subject index, an author index, and a geographical index.
