The authors of the book Asterinales of Kerala have been engaged in the study of Meliolales since the last three decades and this is the result of their stupendous effort. The book gives a brief introduction followed by the characters of the order Meliolales, key to the families and genera. Key to all the species are dealt and placed under their respective alphabetically arranged host families and the fungal genera, synoptic characters of an individual taxon by denoting the name of the spsecies or infra specific taxa. In the descriptive part, the genus with its synonyms, if any, generic description and its type species, schematic representation of the genus in the form of line drawings, followed by its corresponding species is given. The description of each species is nothing but a prologue, carefully re-written in accordance with the Hansford’s  Monograph. Nomenclature is updated, wherever needed. At the end of the description of each taxa, material denotes its type and name of the herbarium. Nomenclature of taxa are dealth, relevant references are mentioned and the host index is provided for easy search.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR D K Agarwal

Professor D.K. Agarwal (b 13.12.1945), M. Sc (Bot.) 1967, Ph.D. (Bot.) 1974, F.P.S.I., M.N.A. Sc., F.L.M.S. (Mycologist), Division of Plant Pathology, IARI, New Delhi has contributed extensively on biodiversity of fungi, their characterization, maintenance and exploration particularly in the field of Hyphomycetes, Basidiomycetes (Rust & Smut Fungi) for the last 40 years. He has to his credit more than 350 research publications, review and popular articles and book chapters in national and international journals of repute. He has created 9 new genera and more than 250 new species of fungi for the science from India and has published 5 supplents to Fungi of India, 2 monographic books on Trichoderma and Erysiphaceae of India each beside a compendium on Soil Borne Fungi. Prof. Agarwal has guided 5 Ph. D. and 6 M. Sc. Students and has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator in more than 5 ICAR Research projects. Prof. Agarwal is elected of Fellow of reputed academic bodies and journals of repute and has served as Treasurer and a Secretary of Indian Phytopathological Society for nine years. He has been awarded Prof. M.J. Narasimhan Merit Academic Award for the Best research work (1973) and best research paper (1992). He is member of the editorial and advisory boards of several reputed journals. Prof. Agarwal has visited CABIMI, U.K. and received advance level training on Identification of fungi (1987) and countries like Singapore and Malaysia.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR V B Hosagoudar

Dr. V.B. Hosagoudar, a graduate from Karnataka University; M.Sc. in Mycology from Y.C. Institute of Science, Satara (Shivaji University); DBM from D.G. College of Commerce, Satara (Shivaji University); Ph. D. and D.Sc. from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Worked for fifteen years in Botanical Survey of India, Southern Circle, Coimbatore and now in Tropical Botanic Garden & Research Institute, Palode, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Has more than three decades of research experience in foliicolous fungi, published three books on fungi including Meliolales of India, author of more than 300 research publications in national and international journals. Member and fellow of several scientific societies; recognized Ph.D. Guide in three Universities, advisor to Microbiology to STET, Mannargudi, Tamil Nadu.
