This volume consists of papers offered as a tribute to Professor P.J. Mistry by his former students and colleagues on the occasion of his retirement from the Department of Linguistics at California State University, Fresno. Reflecting the diversity of the scholars who have benefited from Mistry’s teaching, mentoring and friendship, a wide range of sub-areas of both theoretical and applied linguistics are represented, including syntax, morphology, phonology, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, discourse analysis, text linguistics, first and second language acquisition, language pedagogy, history of linguistics, forensic linguistics, conversation analysis, and typology. The range of languages discussed in the papers is equally diverse both genetically and typologically: they include Bantu, Bontok, Cham, Chumash, English Finnish, Gujarati, Japanese, Mandarin, Manipuri, Sanskrit, Panjabi, Rajasthani, and Telugu. The volume also contains a biography of Mistry as well as articles on his poetry and his contributions to Gujarati linguistics.
