Cytomorphology (In 2 Volumes)

Morphology includes both Exo as well as Endo Morphological characters. For Exo-Morphological characters we lay main stress on taxonomical characters. For Eudo-Morphological characters we are bound to study its anatonomical, Histological, Embrylogical and cytological characters. Vol. 1: In this volume, author has given detailed account of the genus which is needed before the existing taxa can be merged with their near relations. The Range of variation shown structure of venation of petals, pollen grain, Seed and in Leaf were found. The division of this genus on characters purely used for identification appear to be valid, though Hooker's break up of the genus does not appear sound. Any how, this investigation brings out the conclusion that these characters are useful as identification aids at micro-level between the species of other genus. Any how the study reveals that the established sub-genera in Potentilla afe more mono-phylletic and the potentilla as well as sibbaklia are polyphylletic, even some species are certainly 'Polymorphic'. Vol. 2: In this volume, Author has given detailed account of the Anatomical and Histological studies because in potentilla and Sibbaldia hardly any anatomical investigation has been undertaken in the past except Metcalf and Chalk (1950) and by Khan (1977). Emphasis has been laid on development structure of venation, trichomes and stomata. This study appears to have a bearing on taxonomy of the genus.
