Journalism ethics and standards comprise principles of ethics and of good practice as applicable to the specific challenges faced by professional journalists. Historically and currently, this subset of media ethics is widely known to journalists as their professional code of ethics or the canons of journalism. The relation of the mass media to contemporary popular culture is commonly conceived in terms of dissemination from the elite to the mass. The long term consequences of this are significant in conjunction with the continuing concentration of ownership and control of the media, leading to accusations of a media elite having a form of cultural dictatorship. The notion of freedom of expression is intimately linked to political debate and the concept of democracy. The norms on limiting freedom of expression mean that public debate may not be completely suppressed even in times of emergency. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Rajesh Kumar
Dr. Rajesh Kumar graduated from University of Delhi in B.Sc (Honours) in Mathematical Statistics in 1980 and M.Sc. in Mathematical Statistics in 1982. He did Professional Statistician's Certificate Course (P.S.C.C.) in agricultural statistics equivalent to M.Sc. (Agricultural Statisitics) in 1983 from Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute, New Delhi. He was awarded Gold Medal in Professional Statistician's Certificate Course (P.S.C.C.) in Agricultural Statistics for securing highest marks and V.V.R. Mauthy Memorial Prize. He earned Ph.D. degree in Statistics for his work in the field of Survey Sampling in 1995 from Uniersity of Lucknow. Dr. Rajesh Kumar qualified Agricultural Research Services Examination in 1985 and joined Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow as Scientist (Agricultural Statistics). Presently, he working as Principal Scientist (Agricultural Statistics) at Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow, U.P., India. He was elected Fellow of Royal Statistical Society, London in 2000 and was granted the status of Chartered Statistician of Royal Statistical Society, London, UK in 2003. He was the elected Secretary of Association of Sugarcane Technologists of India, c / o Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow in 2004 and an elected member of Executive Council of Indian Society of Agricultural Statistics, c / o IASRI, New Delhi in 2006. He was elected as one of the members of International Board of Consulting Editors of Sugar Tech- An International Journal of Sugar crops and Related Industries published by International Association of Professionals in Sugar and Integrated Technologies, China and Society for Sugar research and Promotion, India in 2007. he was elected as Editorial Secretary of Bhartia krishi Anusandhan Samiti, karnal in 2006. Dr. Rajesh Kumar has published more than 100 research papers in the field of Statistics, Agricultural research and Crop Planning. He shared the responsibility in organizing several National Seminars on Sugarcane Research. On many occasions, he was the member of monitoring team constitute for monitoring the trials of All India Coordinated Research Project on Sugarcane conducted at different location in India.
