The book makes an attempt to present the trajectory of colonial dominance and the resistance that it engendered in colonial India. It presents the nature of transformation triggered by the colonial state in varied fields and the beginning of resistance against different forms of entrenched dominance. It focuses on multiple zones of conflict and collective actions of diverse social groups. It also aims to explore and debate the plurality of resistance and the nature of their manifestation. It addresses the issues of how new identities were forged among the oppressed and how they came out with new strategies for resistance and survival.

The book explores the Indian experience on the formation of identities and forms of resistance. The contributors have investigated the theme of dominance and resistance decoding the structures of dominance and exploring the multiple and diverse forms of resistance.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR K Venugopal Reddy

Dr. K. Venugopal Reddy (b. 1962) was educated at Jawahar Bharathi College, Kavali. He had obtained M.A. and M.Phil degree from University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad and Ph.D. degree in (1992) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has worked as Research Associate of UGC at the Department of History, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam (A.P.) from 1995-1999. In addition, he has also obtained M.A. degree in English from Annamalai University (2003). He is at present working as Faculty Member, The ICFAI University, Hyderabad.
