The book consists of the translation of copious extracts from Maktubat-i-Sadi, the most elaborate and comprehensive of the three published works of this revered Sufi Master. These extracts cover the greater part of, if not all, the principles inculcated in three main works that the Master published, and are expected to give the reader a fair knowledge of the Teaching of the Author in all its phases. The translation, while not being literal, is an honest attempt to present a faithful rendering of the original to the English-knowing public. Shaikh Sharfuddin Maneri titular name was Makhdum-ul-Mulk (‘ Master of the Kingdom or the World.’) He was equally proficient in secular learning and esoteric Knowledge, and possessed superhuman powers. His tomb at Bihar (India) is still resorted to as a place of sanctity by a large number of devout Mahommedans.
