The present book Modern English Grammar: a book of grammar and usage is an attempt to strengthen the healthy and competitive tradition in providing opportunities to people to write better English. The author has made every attempt to be eclectic in his approach as for as the two view points of language learning are concerned. We know very little as to how a child masters his mother tongue and it will be theoretically unsound to follow any particular school of thought. Language learning is as much a matter of acquiring certain basic skills as of formation of rules. An attempt has been made in this book to make the students understand basic rules of grammar and usage and also have ample opportunity for practicing the structures and lexical items. The exercise practice material though out the book has been planned on this approach so as to enable the students to read, understand and write English.
The book has its emphasis on practical usage. It focuses on areas of usage for learners of English as a second language including articles, auxiliaries, conditionals, quantifiers, subject verb agreement, direct and indirect speech, active and passive voice, tenses and the pasts of speech.
This book is a self study reference and practice book for all students at the undergraduate as well as post graduate level.
