The present volume is an attempt to update the existing literature and provide an authentic list of medicinal plants of India along with their vernacular names, chemical constituents, traditional uses as well as biological activities. It has also been tried to include as many traditional uses as have been reported in the literature so as to help the future research workers in testing and finding out whether the folk claims or traditional medicinal claims are correct… It is hoped that the book will be found useful by students and research workers in phytochemistry, pharmacology including clinical pharmacology, traditional medical houses and practitioners… " Each entry in this dictionary is described under the following heads: Synonyms, vernacular name, district and places found in India, native of, chemical constituent and references. The only other similar publication is Glossary of Indian Medicinal Plants by Chopra published 25 years ago. Dictionary of Indian Medicinal Plants has incorporated all changes in the nomenclature of plants as well as chemical compounds since then.
