The present work from the state of Nagaland is the first consolidated botanical account and is the result of botanical exploration and study of flora by the authors during 1978-82. The need for such a work has been felt by botanists for over a century, as there are no significant contributions on this group after the publications of Beddome (1863-70, 1892). Pichi-Sermolli’s (1971) system of classification has been followed in presenting the taxonomic treatment of the 280 species belonging to 98 genera and 37 families in this work.
