The book “Human Rights of Women in India” is to help in the promotion, development and dissemination of knowledge regarding evolution of women’s roles in society. The yearning to create awareness about the social, economic and human rights of women and to highlight the ineffectiveness of the existing laws inspired to make an in-depth study of this subject. All theoretical indicators of equal rights and high social status such as policy declaration constitutional guarantees and prohibitive and protective measures exist only on paper. The life of an average Indian woman is still governed by customs, habits, prejudices and unwritten codes of conduct. The legal complexities continue with social realities to make the life of an average woman insecure and miserable.
