Women Empowerment and Poverty Reduction

The book is concerned with the issue of empowerment of women in Bihar. It examines the challenge to empowerment of women with specific reference to the scenario in the state. It discusses the role of education and empowerment of women in development and need for change in social attitudes towards the girl child and women. With a case study of Patna district, it showcases the impact of the National Rural Employment Guaranteee Scheme in Bihar especially with respect to poverty reduction and empowerment of women through employment. It deals with the importance of the support of self-help groups and availability of credit facilities for women setting up their own business. It highlights the need to strengthen the scenario at the ground level for effective action programmes for empowerment of women. It also provides policy inputs for realistic solutions for economic empowerment of women.
