This book attempts to provide a broad perspective understanding about major world religions and various religious experiences. It is hoped that it will enable the reader to understand the powerful currents of various religious thoughts and spiritual movements all over the world, though they flow through different channels, but have one and the same destination. Based on the role of religious leaders, a proposal for the establishment of the United Nations Spiritual Forum for World Peace with a view to bringing peace on earth has also been included and discussed in this book. This work will make a significant and authentic contribution towards the role of major religions in the contemporary world for strengthening the cause of religious sustainability in the Third Millennium.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR T.Y.S. Lama Gangchen
The world renowned Peace Educator and Healer His Holiness Dr. T.Y.S. Lama Gangchen, born in Western Tibet in 1941 was recognised at an early age to be a reincarnate Lama Healer and was enthroned at Gangchen Choepeling monastery at the age of five. When he reached the age of twelve, he received the "Kachen" degree which is usually conferred after twenty years of study. He studied medicine, astrology, meditation and philosophy at renowned universities in Tibet and India. Lama Gangchen was first invited to Europe in 1981 and since then he ahs been preaching world peace by establishing inner and world peace education centres at over 300 places in 100 countries. Lama Gangchen's major contribution towards peace education, alternative and complimentary medicine, environmental care and futurology started from Milan in 1982 under the aegis of the Kunpen Lama Gangchen Institute for the propagation and preservation of the Tibetan medical tradition, Lama Gangchen World Peace Foundation (now affiliated to the United Nations Department of Public Information),International friendship for the support of Himalayan healing medicine and Non formal Education, Inner Peace Education, Environmental Care and Self-Healing towards a culture of peace in the Third Millennium, established on the auspicious occasion of the 51st Birthday of Lama Gangchen followed by annual congresses at Madrid, Milan, London, Sydney, New Delhi, Kathmandu, New York, santiago(Chile), Rome, Amsterdam, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Caracas, Buenos Aires, Ulaan Baator, San Francisco, Colombo, Paris, Munich and several other places all over the world. Lama Gangchen has authored many books on world peace, ecological-religion, inner and self-healing, alternative and complimentary medicine. He has addressed the United Nations with a view of getting a United Nations Spiritual Forum for world Peace established within the UN system.
