Mathematics has become an integral part of general education and has been taught as compulsory subject up to secondary level. As a result of the recommendations of various Education Commission especially the Kothari Commission (1964-66) Mathematics is one of the compulsory components of general education up to secondary level in Indian Schools. Mathematics is a complex system of concepts and not a collection of facts. The pupil should be helped to have a carefully chosen set of mathematical experiences through teaching in order to help him/her to form a new concept.
