ABOUT THE AUTHOR G. Panigrahi
Dr. Gopinath Panigrahi, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Leeds), is an internationally well-known alpha plant taxonomist as also cytotaxonomist of both Pteridophytes & Angiosperms, and, is a specialist on the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN). Dr. Panigrahi acted as Liaison Officer at Kew (U.K.) from 1973 to 1975. he participated in three International Botanical Congresses held in Paris, Leningrad and Berlin. Apart from guiding and supervising as many 10 Research Scholars to obtain their Ph.D. degrees, he is considered as an expert in the Revisionary researches and has co-authored such studies on 23 of 27 genera of the family Rosaceae in India. He has published more than 400 papers. He has acted as Botanical Editor of as many as 8 volumes of the Flora of USSR, noticed favourably in Taxon. His publications involve 100s of new species, new combinations and nomen nova and has contributed to amend several entries in the Appendices of ICBN. The Government of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests, has conferred him with the prestigious and coveted E.K. Janaki Ammal National Award in Plant Taxonomy in 2002.
