This book is a unique celebration of the mingling of Indo-Portuguese cultures, manifested in architecture, artefacts, sumptuous carpentry, ‘blue tiles’ and textiles. In church-domed Hindu temples and Hindu-influenced Christian wayside shrines, which in turn influenced outswized lamp towers of Hindu temple yards, seen only in Goa. The subtitle of the book–The Indo-Portuguese Bouquet–suggests its thematic content, and what it seeks to put across to the reader. The author, after painstaking research, has selectively focussed on some conspicuous aspects of the composite Indo-Portuguese culture which developed over more than 450 years of Portuguese presence in Goa and other localities on India’s west coast.
