Contemporary Anthropology: Theory and Practice

This book is perhaps the first comprehensive collection of anthropological works in Bangladesh. It brings together several contributions of foreign anthropologists who have worked in Bangladesh and also from some young first generation Bangladeshi anthropologists. This anthology should be of interest to a wide range of readers both at home and abroad who want a comprehensive introduction to Bangladeshi anthropology and different contemporary anthropological issues. The book also has two specific audiences in mind. The first is comprised of students of anthropology and other social sciences who wish to know and read about contemporary anthropology. The other targets readers who are development practitioners, researchers, administrators and also decision-makers including those want to have a general overview of the scope and state of contemporary anthropological research. The articles in this book will dispel the stigmatized notion that anthropology is study of "Primitive" people and societies. Indeed the book is an attempt to demonstrate that scope of anthropology is quite broad, progressive and relevant. It provides a deep understanding of various contemporary issues at both local and global levels that affect our life in a myriad of ways.
