In a continued effort to update the Fauna of British India Series account on Nematode Parasites of Vertebrates of Baylis (1936, 1939), this is the third volume after Fish (Sood, 1988) and Amphibian (Sood, 1990) Nematodes from South Asia. It includes a full account of the Nematode Parasites of Reptiles reported to date from South Asia-Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The most recent information available in the literature on different aspects of each species has also been incorporated. As in the previous volumes, the species or the genera published as abstracts which lack in the detailed description and diagrams, have not been included here. Also, the location, locality etc. of the worms studied for different aspects (other than morphology) remain unmentioned, unless these have been specifically given in the original account. The book has been divided into four chapters. Chapter 1: Deals with the introduction, Chapter 2: Outlines the description of the species, Chapter 3: Gives the systematic position of the nematodes and Chapter 4: Specifies the host-parasite list. The bibliography includes the till-date available references on the subject. Author index, and index on parasites as well as on the hosts have also been given. The descriptions of the species are derived from the already available ones in the literature. These are based on the work of original authors; and those by other have been indicated by citing the author’s name along with the year of publication. In the description of the species, the lay out has been standarlized with a view to facilitate reference and comparison, under the following titles: host, location, locality, material, description, remakrs. A few of the species, though considered as synonyms, have also been described for the benefit of the researchers, who may not agree with the view points presented here. However, these species do not appear in the ‘keys’ provided in this book, and their synonymies have been mentioned in the remarks’ column. The remarks refer to view points of different authors on the species concerned. The place of deposition of the type specimens has been purposely omitted since this has been given by a few authors only and that too when the specimens are rarely available from the source mentioned. Wherever possible, keys to the species and diagrams have also been provided. These ‘keys’ are purely artificial from the identification point of view and are not intended to indicate any phylogenetic relationship.
