Some of the common salient themes that emerge from the study are : definition and usage of the word "nation" and other related terms; Muslim nationhood in the context of broader Indian nationalism; its relation to education, language and other cultural factors; the place of Muslims in Indian history and culture; their relationship with other Indian communities; their politics, with special reference to their participation in the Indian National Congress and the freedom movement; their attitude to the Turkish caliphate; the twin concepts of a world brotherhood of Muslims and an ideal Islamic state; and finally, the relation between religion and politics.
