This book makes a critical evaluation of the legislative measures to control water pollution in India. It gives an analytical description of the special laws enacted in the country such as The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974; The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Cess Act, 1977; The Environmental (Protection) Act, 1986; The National Environment Appellate Authority Act, 1997; The Public Liability Insurance Act, 1991, and The National Environment Tribunal Act, 1995.
Focusing on the enforcement of such laws, it also surveys the cases decided by the various High Courts and the Supreme Court of India. Also, it extends discussion on the principles laid down by the apex court.
