ABOUT THE AUTHOR G Dhananjayan

G. Dhananjayan (GD) is currently Chief - South Film Business in UTV Motion Pictures, India's biggest motion pictures company, responsible for driving the film business in the South Indian languages. In his previous stint for close to five years as Chief Executive - Home Video and Film Business, Moser Baer Entertainment, GD successfully launched their Home Entertainment and Film Division and made it India's largest Home entertainment Company in its very first year of operation. He produced 11 films for Moser Baer in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam, many of them critically acclaimed. The Moser Baer brand was established strongly in the South film industry in a short time by his dedicated efforts. Poo (flower), a film produced by him for Moser Baer in 2008, earned several appreciations and also won the Tamil Nadu State Government Award for the Best film of the year (promoting women). He has tasted success with two films at the box office and is respected for his understanding of the film industry and its working by film makers and producers. Prior to Moser Baer, GD worked in the Mobile industry with Hutchison Essar Group (Vodafone) and Bharti Airtel, leading their sales, marketing and operation teams and achieved significant growth in both subscriber base and revenue for five years. In addition to this, he also has experience with the FMCG and Music industries, having worked with Asian Paints, Kansai-Nerolac Paints and Saregama HMV. Dhananjayan, an MBA in Marketing with a graduation in Mathematics and Computer Science, has worked with professional organizations for 25 years. GD is passionate about films, books, music, sports, writing, teaching, and mentoring. He is settled in Mumbai with his family. His monthly column in Galatta Cinema on the happenings in the South film industry is widely appreciated. His articles on management principles and concepts have been published in leading newspapers and magazines. His first book, a two years' effort, The Best of Tamil Cinema: 1931 to 2010, fulfils his dream of creating a comprehensive record in the form of an English book on 80 years' history of Tamil film industry for global audience, educational institutions, research establishments, archives, film buffs and film aficionados.
