Antony Jay was born in 1930 and has spent forty-five years travelling in the realms of government and politics as a television writer and producer. He has worked as an executive in British television, as well as on a number of successful political and royal documentaries, and most recently has edited the Oxford Dictionary of Political Quotations. He was knighted in 1988.

Jonathan Lynn was born in Bath, England in 1943. As well as winning awards for his writing he has enjoyed a prolific acting career in film, television and on stage. He now lives in Los Angeles, where he is a successful movie director.
