The ancient Indian justice dispensation system was equipped with an institution which similar to today’s Lok Adalat, which had continue even up to the onset of British Rule in India. But Britisher has introduced adversarial justice system which eclipsed the aboriginal justice dispensation system in India, which had proved to provide cumbersome and protracted justice so legal fraternity resorted upon some Alternative Dispute Resolution such as Arbitration and Conciliation. Failure of adversarial system in efficient justice dispensation and under- used alternative justice delivery forums produce a serious and alarming threat to the respect and existence of Administration of justice in India even today. After British regime, the legal fraternity endeavored to find out alternatives to adversarial form of dispute resolution. Therefore, several alternative modes of dispute resolution came into operation such as Arbitration, Conciliation, Mediation and Negotiation.
