Dutta have contributed their papers Volume III has 22 papers on potteries of Early Historic period which begin around first millennium B.C. to early medieval. The scholar like S.C. Saran, Vibha Tripathi, M.C. Gupta, S. Sahai, H.C. Bhardwaj, Sulekha Banejrji, Ambika Patel, H. Harle, A Jha and I.K. sharma have contributed their papers. Oldest Potteries from lower Ganga Yamuna doab are from Chapanimondo, Lahuradeva, Hetapati and just are dated between 8400-5400 B.C. Harka ware at Bhirrana begin around c. 5000- 4000 B.C. The O.C.P. originated from Hakra ware around 3700-3600 B.C. at Ganeshwar and Jodhpur and continued till 1800 to 1100 B.C. at Parihar Sringverpur & Kaushambi. The painted Grey pottery from Mahabharat site is different with Grey were of Shahitump. Black & Red ware begin around 3000 B.C. and there are of different Varieties and it continued till 100 B.C. Vibha Tripathi, S.C. Saran and D.P. sharma observed N.B.P. begins around B.C. Iron with steel tip were also in use during 1000-600 B.C. Old dates of Iron in South Asia are from all Allahdino, Lothal, Ahar, and newly excavated Megalithic Site at Thelungancar in Tamil Nadu & also other site in Southern South Asia. Copper Hoard Weapon and painted Grey Ware along with Iron tools were reported from Mahabaharat sites of Kuru – Panchal – Surasena Janapada in Haryana, Western U.P. N.C.R. region of Delhi.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR D P Sharma

Dr D.P. Sharma did his M.A. in Ancient History, Culture and Archaeology from Allahabad University. He continued his field work and participated in various excavations at Pangoraria, Mansar, Naramada valley, Bhimbetka Chopani-Mando, Mehgara, Koldihwa, Mahadaha, Sringavepur and Bhardwaj Ashram. Besides this, he did extensive exploration in districts of fatehpur, Pratap Garh, Allahabad of U.P. and Buddhani area of Madhya Pradesh. Another significant contribution of Author is discovery of Menander-I (Posthumous) Brahmi inscription from reh. During 1983-84, he was awarded Commonwealth scholarship and he meritiously qualified M.A. (Archeology) with specialization on Palaeolithic-Mesolithic of world, from Institute of Archaeology, University of London. He participated in the excavation of Suxxes (U.K.) and Pincenvent (France). He has completed D.Phil. research in Allahabad University. In 1985, he joined as Dy. Keeper at National Museum, New Delhi. In 1993, he was promoted as Keeper in National Museum. At present he is Associate Professor in National Museum Institute and Head of Collection, Harappan and pre-history, national Museum, New Delhi. He has 20 books and 175 research papers in his credit.
