In this book an effort is made to analyse the various causes, like insufficient plan allocations, defective strategies towards agriculture, not remunerative price structure, not encouraging terms of trade, and question of subsidies etc., for uprising the farmers movements in our country in the post green revolution period. It also gives a brief history of farmers movements in modern India in general and in Andhra Pradesh in particular. A detailed study is also made on certain issues like the problems in getting inputs (chemical fertilizers, seeds and pestisides), availability of water for irrigation, credit problems and difficulties in using power for cultivation etc. There is a space in this book about the problems in growing and marketing of commercial crops like cotton, sugar cane, tobacco and ground-nut and other oil seeds. When the accumulated poverty and increased indebtness among some sections of farming community is stimulating to commit suicide as a solution to the problems, this study is a thought provoking to the policy makers and leaders. This book is also useful to the students of social sciences and general readers who want to understand the hard realities.
