Twentieth century American Literature is characterized by important movements in drama, poetry, fiction and criticism that took shape in the years before, during and after World War I. The eventful period following the war left its imprint on books of all kinds. Literary forms of the period were extraordinarily varied and the leading authors tended towards radical technical experiments in drama, poetry and fiction.
