ABOUT THE AUTHOR P. Shanmughavel
Dr. P. Shanmughavel has a brilliant academic career in Botany, with specialization in Plantation Forestry and a Ph.D. degree in Botany (Plantation-Bamboo) from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. He has submitted a dissertation for Doctor of Science (D. Sc.). He has specialized in Plantation Bamboo work and contributed more than 120 research papers and popular articles and has also written four books on bamboo. In appreciation of his research work, the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Government of Tamil Nadu, honoured him with the prestigious Tamil Nadu Scientist Award (TANSA) in 2002. His book in a regional language was awarded the Best book of the Year 2002 in the field of Agriculture by the Government of Tamil Nadu. He has visited several Asian and African countries. He is a Principal Investigator of several research works in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kunming, China. Presently, he is a Lecturer with the Unit of Bioinformatics, Department of Botany, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR R.S. Peddappaiah
Mr. R.S. Peddappaiah is a Postgraduate in Agriculture and is presently working as a Scientist at the Institute of Wood Science and Tehnology, Bangalore under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, Dehradun. He has good experience of more than ten years in the fild of agroforestry, silviculture, soil and productivity. He has worked/supervised the activity of the projects on the development of Agroforestry models for differenet agro-climatic zones funded by UNDP and NABARD. Mr. Peddappaiah has efferred Consultancy Services on agroforestry to No-Governemtn Organizations. Farmers etc. under UNDP Funded Project. He has taught the trainees of State Forest Service College at Coimbatore a course on preiciples and practices of soil and water conservation and watershed management. He has attended a three months training programme at the University of Florida, U.S.A. to acquire recent advances in the field of agroforestry and productivity in the tropics. To his credit he has several research papers on productivity. Agroforestry, silviculture and mine dump afforestation, published in national and international journals and also attended numerous Symposis, Seminars and Workshops.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR W. Liese
Professor Dr. W. Liese, Professor Emeritus for Wood Biology at Hamburg University and Direcetor of the institute for Wood Biology and Wood Production, Hamburg,, Federal Republic of Germany. He has published more than 400 scientific papers. He has guided about 70 Diploma and 40 Doctoral thesis. He also organized numerous International scientic congress. He worked as a President of International Union of Forestry Research Organisation (IUFRO) (1979-1981). Vice-President of International Academy of /Wood Science (1969-1975). He was honoured with more than 40 International awards.
