Globalisation and the revolution in information and communication technology have signaled the need for a new human-centred development paradigm. The Technical and Vocational Education (TVE), as an integral component of lifelong learning, has a crucial role to play in this new era as an effective tool to realise the objectives of a culture of peace, environmentally sound, sustainable development, social cohesion, and international citizenship. The prerequisites of the TVE response to the new paradigm include appropriate societal values and attitudes, embracing the new technologies, making new policy and financial commitments, and taking account local, regional, and global opportunities and concerns. The relevance and quality of vocational education and training will undoubtedly be enhanced by learning from each other across national borders. This book discusses the changing demands of the labour market and the consequent changes in the TVE system. It examines different education and training modes, and explores the relationship between kinds of skilled training programmes and social and economic development priorities. For all career and technical educators, students and policy makers his publication will be a helpful resource.
