The present book "Archaeological Heritage of Rigvedic Saraswati" is based on the fact that the Harappan Civilization represents the first urban civilazation in South Asia. Recent investigations have show that the number of sites of this civilization on the banks of Rigvedic Saraswati River and its tributaries is far greater than those on the Indus River.
The Saraswati River, along with its tributaries, such as the Drishadwati, etc., enjoyed great fame and prestige during the Vedic times. The Vedic Civilization our Heritage-may be therefore, considered as a gift the Rigvedic Saraswati.
The objectives of the present book are the understand the folowing points:
1. Geographical extent of Vedic and Harappan Civilization; 2. Role of Saraswati in the growth and prosperity of Vedic and Harappan Civilization; 3. Relation between Vedic and Harappan Civilization (material culture study); 4. Causes of dawn and devolution of Vedic/Harappan Civilizations; and 5. The evolution and continuity of Indian heritage from Regvedic-Harappan times.
To meet the above objectives a detailed examination of all the facts acilable through various published souures in Archaeological, Literature, Geological, Geographical field, etc., have been collected and discussed, by dividing the book into seven chapters.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Archana Asthana
Dr. Archana Asthana is an Archaeologist and Art Historian. She did her M.A. in History from G.G.D University. Bilaspur. She is a first calss first and gold medalist throughout her academic carrier. Dr. Archana did her P.G Diploma in Archaeology from Institute of Archaeology, Archaeological Survey of India and D.Phil. on "Transitional Phasae of Buddhist Art Between Sunga to Kusana Period" (with special reference to Sanchi Stupa No. 1, to early art of Mathura in the Kusana Period) from National Museum Institute, New Delhi. Dr. Archana has experience of exploration and excavations of many proto-historic to historical---sites, and all her works have been attested by the diversified publications in the from of articles in journals and news papers of national and international repute. She is also visiting faculty at the Kendriya Vidhyalaya, C.C.R.T., SCERT and Institute of Archeology, Delhi. At present she is working as Assistant Superinding Archaeologist in Archaeologist in Archaeological Survey of India, New Delhi.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ashwani Asthana
Dr. Ashwani Asthana is an Archaeologist by field traning. He did his M.A. in Ancient Indian History Culture and Archaeology from Osmania University. He stood Ist in order of merit in P.G. Diploma in Archaeology from Institute of Archaeology, Archaeological Survey of India. He did his D.Phil. on "Literary and Archaeological Heritage of Rigvedic Saraswati (From 5000 B.C.E. to 1500 B.C.E.)" from Kumaun University, Nainital (UK). Dr. Ashwani has experience of explorations and excavations of about 25 years. He participated in the excavations at Sanghol, Balathal, Kamer, Nagiari, Dholavira, Mandoli, Vadnagar, Sankisa and other pre and proto-historic sites; and all his works have been attested by the diversified publications in the from of books and articles in journals of national and international repute. Presently, he is teaching and imparting field traning to P.G. Student of Archaeology and Heritage Management for the past 18 years in Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management. New Delhi.
