In last few years India’s foreign policy slowly turned ambiguous without having its strain of periodic strategic visions and white papers devoid of any published strategic doctrine. However, with the values that has remain ingrained in India, there have been no drastic change in the trend that decision makes have moulded India’s foreign policy in the last seven decades. It has worked to policy in the last seven decades. It has worked to strengthen the roots of economic development, creating a better understanding of nations in the neighbourhood as well as beyond. It has maintained distance getting embroiled into global conflicts directly, and has been cautious in commenting on them, rather than taking sides easily.

This book explores the initiatives taken by the Prime Minister Modi, India strengthened its bilateral relations with nations in the region, and beyond, while taking the leap of stepping up relations with nations on to the next stage of partnership and cooperation. Using religious diplomacy and civilizational linkages, he brought forth new avenues in Indian foreign policy for strengthening relations between nations. Strengthening the principles of connectivity in between regions and nations, he brought forth the need to strengthen the maritime domain, along with working on developing the principle of ocean’s economy. Turning Yoga into a global concept, the leadership developed its soft power avenues, while taking strong stand on controversial issues of climate and environment. When he felt that regional differences are challenges that remain hard to overcome, he worked to strengthen sub-regional integration, resolving decades old land dispute with Bangladesh.

Adding to the dynamism was Modi’s economy first approach, rooted in his desire to create external conditions necessary to ensure domestic economic progress, thereby bridging between India’s development objectives and its foreign policy. While building comprehensive strategic partnerships, it tried to create a better understanding with nations, which had lingering disputes with India. Whatever the outcome, the disputes with India. Whatever the outcome, the government did not hesitate to initiate a dialogue, even after times of crisis and misunderstanding, and has maintained to play positive and dynamic diplomacy, even being harshly criticised sometimes from the domestic front. The government still works closely seeking avenues for building an energy network amongst nations, strengthening its role in regional and multilateral institutions for economic cooperation, peace building and growth.
