Collection of Opus is a book about the traditional and contemporary art practices in the region of north-eastern part of India. The sequence of the essays corresponds to different phases in the work of art of the Northeast India, and the book is informed throughout by a general interest in the conceptual and traditional relation of art and the visual language.
The essays range from a broad discussion of the traditional art practices; specially of Assam, through analysing about the folk art and illuminated manuscript of Assam. The book concentrates upon the regional development of art practices of Silchar and other parts of the region and focuses on the contribution of art institutions of that region.
The author’s aim is to treat the contemporary art practices of Northeast India as a subject of serious inquiry and to provide the readers with a range of changes and development in the art practices of some regions which are not being highlighted in the global scenario.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Meghali Goswami
Born in Shillong, Dr. Meghali Goswami is an art historian and researcher from north-east India. She graduated in Fine Arts from Government College of Art and Craft, Guwahati and completed her Master’s degree in Art History from National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation & Museology, New Delhi. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in Fine Arts from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Roorkee. Dr Goswami has contributed about a numbers of research papers in Indian and Foreign art journals. She has been regularly contributing articles in art journals and magazines published by various publication houses. She had taught history of art, culture and architecture, at the various institutions and colleges. Besides she is the member of the editorial board of Assam University Journal, Humanities and Social Sciences and the magazine ‘Canvas’. Dr. Goswami is an Assistant Professor of History of Art in the Department of Visual Art, Assam University Silchar.
