Today the world is facing seemingly serious problems of odd developments related to Human rights violation, environmental degradation and socio-political instability. Peace movement in the late nineteen eighties appeared as a powerful weapon against these challenges. Fundamentally promoted by the western intellectuals, the movement became an encouraging concern for mostly Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) related peace research organization, environmentalists and even ordinary citizens. Arising out of intellectual anxiety against political bureaucracy and environmental warming in Western Europe during the peak of cold war the movement worked as a powerful pressure group to promote anti-nuclear movements in the United States. Soon its relevance was greatly felt in South Asia, where the movement, through weak and less researched, is working as a confidence Building Measure when both India and Pakistan are always ready for war. Peace movement can work as a mediator to clear the doubts and misunderstandings so as to promote a civil society. More recently hundreds of peace institutes of various categories have come up to explore the new possibilities in the field of peace and disarmament. This book presents in-depth observation and analysis of peace movement organizations, both in historical as well as contemporary dimensions.
