The present collection of fourteen essays focuses on Indian English literature. A writer’s essays published in the periodical press suffer from a certain ephemerality which is perhaps rather inescapable. The fate of those that appear in edited volumes, though slightly better, is not much different. Easy accessibility is facilitated when all these are garnered and brought out as an independent volume. It is this idea which has prompted the publication of this book. The author indulges the hope that reflective men of his pursuit will find this book not altogether unworthy of their attention and will welcome it with the same affection and enthusiasm that they displayed in regard to his earlier literary labours.
