The book is a compilation of the tales from the hills. All the tales have been reproduces, just as they were told, and as nearly as possible in the words of the narrators, who were village women belonging to the agriculture class of the Hindus in the hills of Himalayas. Himalayan folklore, with its beauty, wit and mysticism, is a most fascinating study, and makes one grieve to thing the day is fast approaching when the honest rugged hill folk of north India will loose there fireside tales under the influence of modern civilization. The author believes that he has been successful in bringing these tales of the mighty Himalayan mountain from under the shades of ancient deodars, the rocks, forest and streams to the great bookshelf of the world.
