A group of related sciences, including algebra, geometry and calculus, concerned with the study of number, quantity, shape and space and their interrelationship by using a specialized notation and mathematical operations and processes involved in the solution of a problem or study of some scientific field – is collectively known as Mathematics. May be the primitive man’s quest for counting hunting / food articles / objects, led into origin of Mathematics. Later, as a scientific discipline it developed leaps and bound with the continued and hard labour, of many erudite mathematics. All scientific and technical developments / achievements we see now in the field of astronomy, space, astrology, physics, chemistry, engineering and technology, pharmacy, medicine and social sciences etc. are the outcome of mathematical computation. Efforts have been made to collect information regarding as many great mathematicians as possible both from published and unpublished sources so that this could be useful to both individual researchers and institutions / agencies. The present work in nine volumes is designed to provide succinct and authoritative information about the mathematicians of past and present.
