The book has been thoroughly revised. Although the basic frame is the same as in the first edition, virtually every chapter has been recast incorporating the latest development. Much old flab had to be sheded. New concepts and Policy measures have been appearing in every field; water management, forest management, soil conservation, energy scenario, agriculture, organic farming, Gene revolution, Impact of W.T.O. and the like. Above all, the development policy and the course and pace of economic reforms had to be taken into account in understanding the revolutionary changes taking place in the industries international trade and the growth trends in the economy. The final chapter (18) attempts to synthesise all these trends and makes an attempt of their impact on regional disparity, environment and employment.
