Women and Child Development

Programmes for women and children implemented by the Department of Human Resource Development, though not exclusively for SC/ST, are primarily directed towards the most disadvantaged groups of population like scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and other economically backward classes living in backward rural, tribal and urban slum areas. Efforts are made to encourage more voluntary organisations to come forth with proposals to start welfare programmes in tribal and backward rural areas by extending special concessions and relaxation under grant-in-aid rules.
